A Bright Mind. A metaphor for a mind eager to learn, be filled with knowledge, and to shine from within.

Advancing a community of skilled professionals and leaders – our career creators – is a vital mission of UH West Oʻahu (UHWO). To ensure that we meet this mission our faculty and staff continue to cultivate unique and differentiated learning opportunities through advancing an integrated and transdisciplinary curriculum of dynamic learning and teaching, discovery and innovation, and scholarly engagement with community partners. Indeed, we believe that “Learning, Discovering, and Engaging is the pathway to 21st Century Community-Based, Transformative Leadership!” This is our value proposition! We know that if we live into these values, if we do it well, 30 years from now, our legacy will be one of great prosperity! Prosperity born from investing in people who do extraordinary things!

At the moment we are developing a comprehensive 10-year strategic action plan grounded on three (3) key learning themes: (1) Aloha ʻĀina—Sustainability for all that nourishes us/health and wellness; (2) ʻŌiwi Leadership—21st Century leaders who know the importance of place and people, and who draw from a diversity of ideas to solve wicked challenges; and (3) Innovation and Transformation—we are strengthening our capacities to be at the forefront of thriving and abundant communities. Stay tuned as we begin to rollout our academic, student success, land development, and new business model.

A key guiding principle at UHWO is Kaiāulu! Building community within our university and building strong relations with the communities we serve! Our Kaiāulu seeks to make UHWO a viable community of participants where everyone feels welcome and included with a feeling of, “I have a place and a role/responsibility (kuleana)! I can make a difference!” Inspiring this vision for service on the campus and in community is the excellence (poʻokela) that we seek!

Welcome back to a new academic year!
