UHWO Sex Discrimination and Gender-Based Violence Information and Procedures
The University of Hawai’i - West O’ahu (UHWO) strives to provide an environment that emphasizes the dignity and worth of every member of its community and that is free from harassment and discrimination. Such an environment is necessary to a healthy learning, working, and living atmosphere because discrimination and harassment undermine human dignity and the positive connection among all members in our UHWO community.
UHWO is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination on the basis of race, sex, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, domestic violence, marital status, arrest and court record, and veteran status. (See the University of Hawai'i Statement of Nondiscrimination and Affirmative Action Policy.) Policies and procedures addressing allegations of sex or gender-based discrimination and/or retaliation will be consistent with state and federal law. Examples of prohibited behavior includes, but is not limited to:
- Sex discrimination;
- Sexual harassment;
- Gender-based harassment, including harassment based on actual or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression;
- Sexual exploitation;
- Sexual assault;
- Domestic violence;
- Dating violence; and
As of September 2015, the grievance policy and procedure that UHWO will use to address any allegations of sex discrimination and gender-based violence involving students, employees and/or visitors or third parties at UHWO will be the UH System's EP 1.204: Interim Policy and Procedure on Sex Discrimination and Gender Based Violence ("Interim Policy").*
*Note: The University of Hawaii’s Interim Executive Policy EP 1.204 is a provisional policy to meet the University’s compliance obligations while it consults with various stakeholders, including the exclusive collective bargaining representatives of the University’s faculty and staff under HRS, Chapter 89.
FILING A COMPLAINT/SUBMITTING A REPORT
If you, or someone you know, has information regarding a victim or issue regarding alleged sex discrimination or gender-based violence, or retaliation, please use UHWO's Discrimination Complaint Form or contact any of the UHWO Title IX Coordinators (T9Cs) using the contact information listed below.
Although filing a report with a UHWO T9C usually allows for a more expedient resolution in many cases, Reporters may also seek a criminal conviction by filing a report with the local police by calling 911.
