Campus Security

The University of Hawai‘i - West O‘ahu Campus Security Department is firmly committed to provide a safe and secure campus environment that is conducive to freedom of expression and movement for people and their property at the UH West O‘ahu campus within the constraints of federal, state, local laws and university policies.

The members of the Campus Security Department are committed to providing high quality, public safety services with a strong emphasis on customer service. Campus Security is located in the Maintenance/Mechanical Building, room F202. The department is staffed by a Security Sergeant and two Security Officers who are on duty Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. A contracted security company provides coverage overnight and on the weekends.

UHWO Campus Security officers do not have police powers or arrest authority and are not authorized to carry firearms. Campus Security officers may detain person(s) involved in the violation of laws and those involved in criminal acts they personally view, or those positively identified as having committed such an act by victims or witnesses.


Security Officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Along with routine patrol duties and parking enforcement, other services include conducting investigations, responding to emergencies and alarms, making emergency notifications, and securing rooms and buildings. Routine facility and landscaping assessments are made to minimize hazardous conditions. Exterior lighting, doors, and shrubbery are checked for unsafe or hazardous conditions.

A safety escort service is provided from dusk to dawn for anyone alone on campus at night to any University parking lot or facility. Dial 2911 from any campus phone or 689-2911 from a mobile phone to request a safety escort.

Officer’s conduct foot or bicycle patrols regularly to deter potential crime and response to medical emergencies. Officers are trained in emergency First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).


Dial 2911 from any West O'ahu campus phone to report crimes and other emergencies to the Campus Security Office. Eleven emergency call boxes are located throughout campus that automatically connect the caller to Campus Security when the red button is activated. Call box locations are indicated on the campus map.

Patrolling officers are always accessible by mobile phone. Dial 689-2911 to reach an officer from a mobile or off-campus phone.
