How to Help a Student in Distress
Imminent Danger to Self or Others
• Safety is an immediate concern; &• Active threats of suicide & resists help; or
• Physically or verbally threatens to harm others

Non-Imminent Situations & Concerns
• Safety is not an immediate concern• Threatens self or others, but will accept help
• Students in distress, but not a danger to self or others
Mental Health Consultation or Referral for Treatment
• Walk student to Counseling & Development Services E118; or
• Call 689-2678 to schedule an appointment
• If student needs someone to talk to prior to his/her appointment, contact an Academic Advisor
Student Conduct Consultation
• Contact the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs 689-2800
Whenever possible, walk the student to E118. Show the student where the Counseling & Development Services is located. If the Psychologist is available, the student can be seen immediately. If the Psychologist is unavailable, call 689-2678 to schedule an appointment.
