UH West Oʻahu Associate Professor Jason Levy and Instructor of Economics Dr. Peiyong “Patricia” Yu’s proposal on urban economics, sustainable planning, and new urbanism received a research grant from CoStar Group Inc. to investigate original approaches for integrated, sustainable, resilient and transit-oriented cities on Oʻahu.

CoStar is providing Dr. Levy and Dr. Yu with state of the art tools, resources, and datasets (worth over $6,000) on over 4.5 million commercial real estate properties to carry out their urban economics and sustainable communities research. Through the award, Dr. Levy and Dr. Yu will have access to CoStar’s state of the art datasets for research and educational purposes at UH West Oʻahu.

The foundation for this research was presented by Dr. Levy and Dr. Yu at the Global Conference on Business and Finance in Honolulu in January 2016. Dr. Levy and Dr. Yu jointly received two research presentation awards at this conference. The results of this research were published in the following two papers in the peer-reviewed GCBF Proceedings: “Estimating the value of the Honolulu Rail Transit Project: A semiparametric analysis of land and property values in Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi” (Yu and Levy) and Business Continuity Planning for Economic Resilience in Hawaii (Levy, Yu and Prizzia)
