UH West O’ahu Assistant Professor of English Yasmine Romero published the article, “Developing an Intersectional Framework: Engaging the Decenter in Language Studies,” in the journal Critical Inquiry in Language Studies.

Dr. Romero argues that intersectionality should be brought into the classroom, most especially the relationship between gender, race, and sexuality; she proposes a syncretic framework – a way of layering together different perspectives from queer theory to critical race theory.  Using this framework, she examines how students in her composition class explore gender, race, and sexuality through talk and text.
