Rationale
  • Mission: intention has been to offer full four year curriculum since 1976, reaffirmed in 1989. “Eventually” is now.


  • Timing: interest in and attention to Kapolei is growing.  UHWO can establish a presence before the new campus is built.

  • UHWO Faculty Senate endorsed adoption of hallmarks used by UH Manoa and many UH community colleges.
  • UHWO Faculty Senate established faculty committee to review new course proposals and match them with hallmarks.
  • Proposed curriculum reviewed by Council of Chief Academic Officers and VP for Academic Planning and Policy.

Conclusion
  • Similarly situated institutions have been successful in adding a lower two year curriculum, especially when they share curricular models and principles with other campuses in their system.  System campuses usually see multiple benefits in having new options for various groups of students who would otherwise probably not participate in the system’s educational offerings.
