The Hawaiian-Pacific Club is open to students, alumni and community members. It enables students to get together informally, outside of the classroom, and get to know each other – building stronger ties between our students, and with our Hawaiian and islander communities. The club promotes an understanding of Hawaiian and Pacific Island cultures through activities such as fieldtrips to Hawaiian cultural places, to special museum exhibits on Hawai’i and the Pacific, to talks by researchers, authors and playwrights of Hawaiian or Pacific Island ancestry; work at lo’i (irrigated kalo fields) and planting native Hawaiian plants; sponsoring dance or cultural performances; and various fund-raising projects. One of our special activities of 2006 was a field trip to the island of Hawai’i where we visited a number of important historic places.
