Duties:
Librarian II Duties and Responsibilities:
* Reporting to the Head Librarian, this position will be responsible for a wide range of academic library services including but not limited to providing reference service; participating in library and information literacy instruction activities; providing outreach to distance learners and support to faculty teaching distance education courses; collaborating on the design and maintenance of the library’s Web site; working with faculty to improve library services; performing assigned collection development responsibilities; serving on Library, University and UH System committees; and other duties as assigned. Librarians have full faculty status and must demonstrate professional competence, scholarly or creative achievement, and other service activities in order to meet library and university standards for tenure and promotion.
Librarian III Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provides strategic leadership for all functions of the library in collaboration with other academic units and in support of the mission of the University; serves as primary advocate for the library; administers all aspects of library operations; supervises staff and students. The librarian is also an active participant in public and technical service activities including reference services, information literacy training, database use and management, and cataloging. The librarian works with faculty in support of teaching and scholarship, particularly with regard to information literacy and the integration of technology into the curriculum.
Librarian IV Duties and Responsibilities:
* Provides strategic leadership for all functions of the library in collaboration with other academic units and in support of the mission of the University; serves as primary advocate for the library; administers all aspects of library operations; supervises staff and students. Minimum qualifications:
Librarian II Minimum Qualifications:
* ALA accredited MLS or international equivalent; excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team-based environment; knowledge of best practices and current trends in the provision of excellent library services, including library instruction and distance learning library support; experience using Microsoft Office Professional Suite; experience with Web page design tools; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and colleagues in a multicultural environment.
Librarian III Minimum Qualifications:
* ALA accredited MLIS or international equivalent; in addition to the Masters degree, 24 post-baccalaureate credits of academic study; at least three years of appropriate experience; excellent oral and written communication skills. Librarians in this rank should display knowledge and ability sufficient for independent performance of assigned Library activities and should be knowledgeable about library and university policies and procedures. The individual should demonstrate initiative in developing specialized skills and/or interests to grow professionally and contribute needed expertise to the library and university. Continuing awareness of current professional literature and developments is expected.
Librarian IV Minimum Qualifications:
* ALA accredited MLIS or international equivalent; a second Masters degree in a specialized subject area; seven years of appropriate experience or four years in the rank of Librarian III; excellent oral and written communication skills. Librarians in this rank are expected to perform functions and activities with outstanding competence. They should demonstrate evidence of maturing professional growth and assumption of progressive and varied responsibilities. The individual should show ability to anticipate and recommend changes in accordance with the changing needs of the library and university as a whole. They should exhibit independence and creativity in provision of service and/or program development or evaluation. The librarian should participate in academic or professional activities within the university and beyond.
Desirable qualifications:
Librarian II Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience providing both traditional and electronic reference in an academic library; experience providing academic information literacy and library instruction training; experience with Voyager cataloging module.
Librarian III Desirable Qualifications:
* Familiarity with the Ex Libris Voyager Integrated Library System; working with library consortia; collection development in an electronic environment; negotiating with online database vendors.
Librarian IV Desirable Qualifications:
* Familiarity with the Ex Libris Voyager Integrated Library System; working with library consortia; collection development in an electronic environment; negotiating with online database vendors.
Pay range: Salary Information: Negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.
