Summer Music Works Announces 2014 Program Information!
From June 3 through July 3, 2014, UH West O‘ahu’s Summer Music Works will once again break down the basics of music and help students write and record their next music hit – pop song, rap or instrumental. Along the way, students will learn about their college options in the UH System, how to be successful in college, and how college can help them be successful in life.
The 2014 Summer Music Works program invites applications from high school juniors and seniors from Nānākuli, Wai’anae, Anuenue, Farrington and Waipahu High Schools. Selected students will be eligible to earn 3 FREE COLLEGE CREDITS (and high school credit) over 5 WEEKS during Summer 2014.
Applications are due May 13, 2014. (See below for how to apply.)
Summer Music Works 2014 is supported by a U.S. Dept of Education, Title III grant; the UH Student Diversity and Equity Initiative; Boys and Girls Club of Hawai‘i Wai‘anae Clubhouse; and the UH West O‘ahu Music Fund.

Summer Music Works Launches!
A group of 11 lucky young musicians met today for the first of 12 sessions at the BGCH recording studio in Wai‘anae. Led by Dr. Jon Magnussen, the class worked with language, meter, rhythm and song analysis before breaking for lunch. Nine of the students hail from Wai‘anae High School and two from Nanakuli. The talent was evident as the class progressed, promising some very groovy tunes in the near future!
