UH West O‘ahu Radio Commercial Auditions, Dec. 18-19
Ever dreamed of being on the radio? We are looking for student talent for UH West O‘ahu’s radio commercials airing on KCCN FM 100 and Power 104.3 starting in January. Everyone who tries out will receive a gift! Winners will record a series of commercials for the University and receive a KCCN prize package including tickets to the Jan. 17 “Throw da Shaka” Concert at the Waikiki Shell featuring Fiji and more, as well as Dave & Buster’s Power Cards, a gift certificate to Duke’s Canoe Club Restaurant and Barefoot Bar, and tickets to the Society of Seven show.
Auditions will be held on Dec. 18 and 19 from 9-11 a.m. in E-106. Contact Julie Funasaki Yuen at 454-4821 or julie@uhwo.hawaii.edu by Friday, Dec. 17 to reserve an audition time slot. A sample script will be provided prior to the audition. Participants must be available Dec. 29-30 and Jan. 5-9 to record the commercial live at the KCCN FM 100 and Power 104.3 studios in downtown Honolulu.
Fill out End-of-Semester Course Evaluations on campus, Dec. 15-18
You can now complete your fall 2008 End-of-Semester Course Evaluations on campus! Conference Room B-106 will have 10 to 15 laptops available for students to fill out course evaluations. The room will be open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Dec. 15-18 for completing evaluations. The deadline to fill out course evaluations is Friday, Dec. 19. Calling all writers!
The Writing and Learning Center will publish a “Tales of Academic Survival” booklet featuring essays about the road to college success. Tell us your story about
• an experience that made you a better student
• a person who helped you master a skill
• a strategy that helped you survive (or any advice for newcomers)
Send manuscripts (1,000-word maximum, typed, double-spaced) to the Writing and Learning Center, B-108, uhwowc@hawaii.edu, or call 454-4794 for more information. Illustration submissions (black/white drawings or other graphics) will also be accepted. Submission deadline is Friday, Jan. 30.

West Press Deadline, Jan. 12
All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to send in submissions for the Feb. issue of the West Press. The submission deadline for story ideas including club events, recent publications, class projects and any UH West O‘ahu items of interest is Monday, Jan. 12. The Writing and Learning Center and the Math Center invite all UH West O‘ahu students, staff, faculty and friends to a pizza party and open house on Dec. 9. Graduating Senior Exit Survey Hey, graduating senior! UH West O‘ahu is interested in your thoughts before you graduate! You will soon receive invitations via email to participate in the UH West O‘ahu Exit Survey of Graduating Seniors. This survey will give you an opportunity to share your thoughts about your academic experience and help us understand how to better serve UH West O‘ahu students.

Accounting Club Sets End-of-Semester Social,
Dec. 20
On Dec. 20, the Accounting Club will host an end of the semester social at Dave & Buster’s with active members enjoying fun and games, a good meal, and the company of fellow members. Congratulations and thanks to all graduating students and active members.
Education Club's Book Drive, Dec. 1-5
The Education Club will be collecting new and gently used books to benefit the parent/child connection and literacy building lending library of Waipahu Elementary School Dec. 1-5 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Kuhialoko lanai (E building). We will also be accepting cash donations during the general collection. Officers will also be collecting books before and after class (see Teagan Logan, Crystal Schaffner, Gwen Lazear, Shannon Cristobal and Michelle Adamski). The Writing and Learning Center and the Math Center will be open through finals week. To avoid the rush, please visit the center early in your writing process! Located in B-108, we are happy to look at drafts and help you brainstorm and develop your ideas. Tutoring hours are:

FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS |
The financial aid deadline for fall only students is today, Dec. 5. If this fall is your last semester at UH West O‘ahu and you applied for financial aid, today is the last day to submit all financial aid requirements. Check your financial aid status through MyUH Portal or contact the financial aid office at 454-4700 or finaid@uhwo.hawaii.edu.
The 2009-2010 UH Regents and Presidential Scholarship application is now available online at www.hawaii.edu/raps. These scholarships are offered to incoming freshman and juniors. Recipients receive $4,000 a year and a one-time travel grant of $2,000.
