REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Academic Record Updates
Students who are enrolled at another UH campus this spring 2009 semester should submit the Academic Record Update form available at http://www.uhwo.hawaii.edu/forms to the Student Services Office to have credits evaluated. No official transcript is required.

Students who are enrolled at a non-UH college/university this spring 2009 semester should have final official transcripts sent directly to the Student Services Office to have credits evaluated. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted as official (e.g., issued to student, hand-carried transcripts, faxed materials, and student copies of transcripts or grade reports).

Spring 2009 Grades
Grades for the spring 2009 semester will be available on the MyUH Portal on May 26 by noon. If there is a discrepancy with your final grade, contact the Registrar’s Office at (808) 454-4700 within 10 calendar days of the date final grades are posted.

Students who receive an “I” or incomplete grade should contact their instructor to discuss the coursework to be completed and the deadline. The final university deadline for instructors to submit a grade change for incomplete grades given during the spring 2009 semester is Oct. 26. All incomplete grade changes not submitted by this deadline will be converted to the letter grade that was assigned to the incomplete grade.

Diplomas and Official Transcripts
Students who need official UH West O‘ahu transcripts with spring 2009 grades and/or degree conferred should complete and submit the Transcript Request Form at http://www.uhwo.hawaii.edu/forms to the Student Services Office. Transcript requests for spring 2009 grades will be processed beginning May 26. Transcript requests for conferral of a degree and/or certificate will be processed within 8-10 weeks after commencement.

Summer Tutor Positions Available at Waipahu Intermediate; $10.80/hour
GEAR UP Waipahu is looking for summer and regular school year tutors for students at Waipahu Intermediate School. Ability to speak Marshallese, Chukeese, Ilocano or Samoan and previous tutoring or teaching experience a plus! UH system college students are preferred (Job #86743). Tutors should be able to explain basic writing and math concepts and have a solid understanding of middle school level courses.

Spring 2009 End-of-Semester Course Evaluations Prize Winners Announced
Congratulations to first place winner of the $50 cash prize, Yumi Panui, junior in the Social Sciences program. Writing and Learning Center Offers $10/hour Tutor Positions for Fall/Spring Semesters
The UHWO Writing and Learning Center is hiring writing tutors for the 2009-2010 academic year. Writing tutors help students by appointment, online, and are available for drop-in consultations. Tutors help students develop main ideas, arguments and correctly document papers across the curriculum as well as assist with grammar and mechanics. Interested tutors assist in developing and facilitating academic skill workshops and podcasts. Tutoring experience is desirable, but not required. Students can receive paid training over the summer or early fall. Students may also receive elective credit or internship experience.

Requirements/responsibilities:

1.     Must be enrolled at any UH campus (minimum of three credits)
2.     Completion of English 200 or the equivalent (with B or better)
3.     Ability to communicate effectively with diverse range of students
4.     Familiar with academic writing, including incorporating sources
5.     Attend training meetings
6.     Represent the Writing and Learning Center in a manner consistent with the goals and mission of the University

Application materials:

1.     Completed application form (provided by Dr. Emily Nye to interested students)
2.     One letter of recommendation from a previous instructor or job supervisor
3.     Sample of graded academic writing

U-Pass Reduced Rate Bus Pass Available to UH West O‘ahu Students
Do you ride TheBus? As a UH West O‘ahu student, you are eligible to purchase a U-Pass reduced-rate bus pass tailored to the needs of Hawai‘i’s university students. The pass is valid now through June 30 for $80. Bring your valid student ID to the Dean of Student Services office, room A-108. Passes are available for purchase (cash only) until June 30.

2009 National Survey of Student Engagement
All UH West O‘ahu freshmen and seniors:
Please remember to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). Your feedback is valuable and will tell us how best to improve your curriculum and general campus life. Only 40 percent of you have filled out the survey so far. Instructions on completing the NSSE online have been sent to you by email. The deadline to fill out the NSSE is June 1. Do your part in helping to improve the curriculum and campus life for all UH West O‘ahu students!

Recent graduates Leianne K. Nagum and Mariah R. Weidenbach, and senior Jinsun N. Yi were inducted into the UH West O‘ahu chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the International Sociology Honor Society on Thursday, May 14. The AKD, established in 1920 by Dr. Emory Bogardus at the University of Southern California, emphasizes excellence in the scientific study of society for its betterment.

UHWO Sociology Club Fundraiser Contributes to Local and Global Projects

The UHWO Sociology Club thanks supporters of its plate lunch and other fundraising activities this past semester. The Sociology Club was able to contribute $100 each to the Leeward Domestic Violence Shelter, as well as to the Partners In Health organization for its Malaria Prevention Project in Malawi. Mahalo again for your support of the Sociology Club’s service activities!
