Service-Learning Program

The UHWO Service-Learning Program works in partnership with community agencies, organizations, and individuals to provide UHWO students with opportunities to enrich their education through extended and reflective service in their community/ies.  The program bridges the university with the larger community and encourages students to work with real-world issues that demand critical, creative and compassionate thinking.

The Service Learning Program at UHWO consists of faculty and staff who value service to the community and hands-on-learning as ways to enrich students’ university experience.  Through service-learning students are encouraged to take their classroom knowledge out to the larger community and apply it to hands-on, real life situations.  It can be exciting, challenging and very satisfying as students integrate their classroom learning with the real world.  It’s also a great opportunity for students to develop a professional network and learn skills and attitudes necessary for work or graduate school.
