On January 16, 2012, The Family Courts Detention Center in Honolulu invited volunteers to come help with a restoriation project. The former detention center will be used as a community center in the near future for neighborhood residents.
Volunteers from Kapiolani Community College, Honolulu Community College, Hawaii Pacific University, Maryknoll, Department of Justice, & the Boys & Girls Club spent an entire day helping out. Weeds were pulled out from the courtyard, painting in preparation for a wall mural was done, and new furniture was installed.
After few hours of service the volunteers were all able to talk story over a home cooked lunch.
While it was a great turnout, we would love to have a group of West Oahu Pueos come out to the next day of service. Interested? Contact – Todd Jordan todd9@hawaii.edu
