The Associated Students of the University of Hawai`i West O`ahu (ASUHWO) is the official student government organization. Payment of the student activity fee entitles you to become a member of ASUHWO. ASUHWO strives to provide activities that address the needs and interests of students, and to promote student participation in the University and community. ASUHWO activities and projects include forums, semester-end socials, presentation of mementos to UHWO graduates, promotion of the University at career fairs, West O`ahu Day, and assistance to the University at commencement ceremonies. The student activity fee is used to support these projects and events. The governing body of the ASUHWO is the Senate, which consists of the executive board (officers) and five senators; one each from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business and Public Administration areas of concentration, and one representative from each class: freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. Each senator chairs one or more standing or special committees to plan activities for the year. Volunteers from the general student population serve as committee members. Meetings are open to all students.
