Ka ʻUmeke Nōweo. A Bright Mind. A metaphor for a mind eager to learn, be filled with knowledge, and to shine from within.

Advancing a community of skilled professionals and leaders is a vital mission of UH West Oʻahu (UHWO). To ensure that we meet this mission our faculty and staff continue to cultivate unique and differentiated learning opportunities through advancing an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum of dynamic learning and teaching, discovery and innovation, and engagement with community partners. Indeed, we believe that “Learning, Discovering, and Engaging is the pathway to 21st Century leadership!” This is our value proposition! We know that if we live into these values, if we do it well, 30 years from now, our legacy will be one of great prosperity! Prosperity born from investing in people who do extraordinary things!

Hence, it is with great pride that I am excited to announce that has selected the University of Hawaiʻi – West O‘ahu as one of the Best Colleges in Hawaii for 2017! partners with to provide students with direct connections to schools and programs suiting their educational goals. We should all be proud of the work that our faculty, staff, and students do everyday to make us the best place to work, to study, and to soar!!

An example of important faculty contributions comes from Dr. Matthew Chapman who recently appeared on ThinkTech. His presentation sought to raise awareness about how we need to protect our cyber infrastructure from malicious actors.  The video of the show was streamed live. You can view the show on as well as on the ThinkTech home page

ACM Students and faculty pose on the red carpet at the Hawaii European Cinema Film Festival

Additionally, our students, faculty, and staff had a blast at the Annual Hawai‘i European Cinema Film Festival!  Our Creative Media program received a gift of $5,000 from the Sunny Depree Family Foundation in recognition of the students helping in the production of the Hawaii European Cinema's trailer for next year's awards gala. The students developed a trailer to solicit student filmmakers for next year's contest.

Our Creative Media program was in the news recently due to Director Chris Lee's initiative in bringing Ludi Lin (best known as the black Power Ranger in the major motion picture movie out now) to promote the Early College initiative between UHWO ACM and Waipahu and Waianae High Schools.

Mahalo to our faculty and staff who work so hard to ensure the success of Hawaiʻi’s high school students by making college-going a reality.
