A Bright Mind. A metaphor for a mind eager to learn, be filled with knowledge, and to shine from within.

Advancing a community of skilled professionals and leaders is a vital mission of UH West Oʻahu (UHWO). To ensure that we meet this mission our faculty and staff continue to cultivate unique and differentiated learning opportunities through advancing an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum of dynamic learning and teaching, discovery and innovation, and engagement with community partners. Indeed, we believe that “Learning, Discovering, and Engaging is the pathway to 21st Century leadership!” This is our value proposition! We know that if we live into these values, if we do it well, 30 years from now, our legacy will be one of great prosperity! Prosperity born from investing in people who do extraordinary things!

Dr. Gloria Niles at the Malama Honua Summit

A key guiding principle at UHWO is Poʻokela/Excellence. This excellence is illuminated in the work that our faculty do with students. View the digital storybooks created by Elementary Education students under the guidance of Dr. Gloria Niles, Education Division, which were showcased at the Mālama Honua Summit (June 2017 in celebration of the return of Hōkūleʻa). Elementary Education students showcase digital storybooks as part of Mālama Honua Fair and Summit. Because our faculty believes in the transformative power of education and engaged scholarship they continually develop and refine value-added learning opportunities. Here are some exciting examples:

Poʻokela is also illuminated in the beauty of our campus! Every morning as the sun rises our campus maintenance crew is busily cleaning the classrooms and facilities, trimming the lawn and gardens, setting-up for special events – ensuring that our community of learners have a place to call home! MAHALO NŪNUI to our campus facilities and maintenance units! This is a beautiful Hawaiian Place of Learning where everyone is embraced, where Aloha is shared, and where aspirations are fulfilled!

We are all proud to be Pueo Strong! As a member of the UHWO ʻOhana we know that wherever we go, our core value of Poʻokela – Educational Excellence guides our good work!

E mālama pono!
