Advancing a community of skilled professionals and leaders is a vital mission of UH West Oʻahu (UHWO). To ensure that we meet this mission our faculty and staff continue to cultivate unique and differentiated learning opportunities through advancing an integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum of dynamic learning and teaching, discovery and innovation, and engagement with community partners. Indeed, we believe that “Learning, Discovering, and Engaging is the pathway to 21st Century leadership!” This is our value proposition! We know that if we live into these values, if we do it well, 30 years from now, our legacy will be one of great prosperity! Prosperity born from investing in people who do extraordinary things!

We just sent off our largest - to date - graduating class! As I greeted and handed each graduate their diploma, I could feel their pride, anticipation, and exuberance! Our Pueo graduates will begin new journeys as they take their new knowledge and skills into their communities! I am confident that the quality of their degrees will greatly increase both their employability as well as lifetime prosperity. Indeed, Poʻokela/Excellence is seen across all our programs! But it is not just what we do at UHWO but it is why and how we do what we do for our students that distinguishes us! Our faculty and staff believe in the transformative power of education and engaged scholarship. In light of this, our student/learners are introduced to knowledge and skills that aid them in addressing real world challenges and prepare them to contribute to their families and their healthy communities. An example of excellence in teaching is the recent award to Dr. Monica LaBriola, who received the Frances Davis Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. HULO!
Additionally, our Business programs provide many examples of excellence at UWHO. Recently accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, the business programs were lauded for the strength of quality and innovative teaching approaches. Faculty were commended for preparing 21st Century Leaders. Excellence also led to a significant endowment from the Higa ʻOhana in support of the Risk Management and Insurance program. Additionally, excellence was awarded to students who competed in a National Cyber Security competition.
We are all proud to be Pueo Strong! As a member of the UHWO ʻOhana we know that wherever we go, our core value of Poʻokela – Educational Excellence guides our good work!
