Hawai‘i Graduation Initiative

The Hawai‘i Graduation Initiative (HGI) is a University of Hawai'i systemwide strategic initiative that focuses on increasing the number of educated citizens within the state. Specifically, HGI seeks to increase the number of University of Hawai‘i graduates by 25 percent by the year 2015 (10,500 graduates in fiscal year 2015).

In order to assist in achieving the state's goal, UH West O‘ahu is working toward launching a few pilot programs this fall including stretch (embedded remedial) courses in English and Math as well as an Honors Program. The University is also working on course mapping, strategic uses of financial aid, block scheduling for freshmen and new advising strategies.
